In the fourth quarter of 2020, the social networking landscape in Latin America was dominated by a few key players, according to data from Sensor Tower. Here's how the top apps performed on a unified platform.
WhatsApp Messenger, a stalwart in the messaging space, showed a decrease in downloads from 2.9M at the start of November to 1.9M by the year's end. While weekly active users dipped from 268M to 263M in the same period, revenue saw an uptick, ending the quarter at $211K.
Facebook also experienced a decline in downloads from 2.9M to 1.8M, while active users slightly decreased from 348M to 345M. However, revenue exhibited growth, peaking at $171K in the final week of December.
Messenger saw downloads drop from 2M to 1.4M, with a corresponding decline in weekly active users from 153M to 145M. Despite this, revenue showed a positive trend, with the highest at $443K in mid-December before closing the quarter at $180K.
Telegram Messenger had a steady performance in terms of downloads, starting at 831K and ending at 827K. Active users saw a decrease from nearly 24M to around 22M. Since Telegram's revenue was at $0 throughout the quarter, the focus remains on its solid user base and download consistency.
Lastly, Discord - Chat, Talk & Hangout showed a notable decrease in downloads from 1.7M to around 449K. Weekly active users also saw a decline from 13M to 10M. Yet, the app's revenue saw an impressive increase, finishing the quarter at $30.6K.
